About

I'm Rafael Villaruz. I help professionals to live up to their fullest potential.

When I first entered the workforce more than 20 years ago, I realized there were skills that separated the top performers from the average performers. I thought I knew what they were: the degree you have, the technical skills you learned, the knowledge and acumen you gained through school. But I quickly realized that I was wrong.
I noticed that top performers really stood out because they had soft skills that separated them from the rest of the pack: they communicated well, they made people feel comfortable around them, they brought positive energy to the room, they said the right thing at the right time to make a positive impact on those around them. I started identifying and studying these skills because I wanted to be a top performer.
I’ve struggled as millennial moving into a leadership position and people questioning “why is this young person here?”. I’ve been suffocated by bad bosses who were micromanagers and told me “you don’t know what you’re talking about.” I’ve been passed up for jobs, been questioned if I was even qualified for the job I had, and had difficulty navigating organizational politics.
But each of those experiences helped me master those soft skills to deal with these challenges over and over in my career. And I’ve worked to help those around me deal with those same challenges. I believe that knowledge is only as good as you can share it with those around you.
I enjoy elevating those around me to live up to their fullest potential. I treat each engagement as an opportunity to provide perspective to help people grow and gain the assurance they need to become a top performer.
I keep it real 100% of the time. I believe that getting individualized advice in a productive way quickly helps people become top performers. Rather than trying to fit generic advice into your own specific journey, I focus on your specific journey and provide specific advice to help you elevate your career. I enjoy working with diverse, thoughtful, energized individuals and I’m hopeful to work with you!

I believe in making the complex as simple as possible. Including in your career. Once things become simple, you can have fun, you can live up to your fullest potential, and you can be your true self.
